Get Some Culture
We look at the upcoming Culture Night and what’s going on.

This year, Culture Night will take place on Friday 18 September 2015, a time of the year where creative events from gigs to art installations, film screenings to workshops, take place across Ireland. Many of the locations are either natural environments with a one-off-event or National institutions opening their doors later than normal to allow creativity to be explored. Getting Around: As there will be events here, there, and almost everywhere, getting around on the night will require a bit of planning. But the lovely folks that organise it have set up FREE Culture Night buses in partnership with Dublin Bus. Spread out across four routes, A, B, C, and D, there will be an easier way to get to where you are going. All buses go full circle, so for example; Route A departs Bachelor’s Walk to Parnell Square, then on to Croke Park before heading back down to Parnell Square and returning to Bachelor’s Walk. This process is repeated at stops on College Green, Aston Quay, and Parkgate Street. For more on the routes, visit culturenight.ie or download their app.
Block T Open Studios is a chance for the public to see the creative output of its studio members, while also showcasing the works of Darkroom Photography and Skillsets schools Where: 1-6 Haymarket Square, Smithfield. Dublin 8. When: 5pm-11pm. Lilliput Press open their doors to one of Ireland’s oldest and smallest independent publishers. The event here is the launch of award-winning author, Donal Ryan’s new book, A Slanting of the Sun. Where: 62-63 Sitric Road, Stoneybatter, Dublin 8. When: 5pm-9pm
Design Hub @ The Coach House will be full of music, spoken word, and workshops if you fancy getting hands on with Culture Night. Bring a T-shirt to screenprint while also taking the time to discover emerging Irish artists in the areas of jewellery, modelling, furniture, and engineering. Where: The Coach House, Dublin Castle, Dublin 2. When: 5pm-9pm National Archives of Ireland offers a chance for guests to know more about the holdings of the National Archives, how to research there, researching your family history, all the while looking at some of the original and important documents that are kept there. Where: Bishop Street, Dublin 8. When: 5pm-8pm
The Icon Walk & The Icon Factory will have an evening of exhibitions and a guided tour to discover some of Ireland’s iconic artists, writers, musicians, and cultural spaces.The guided tour starts at 6pm, but you can visit the factory exhibition from 5pm-11pm Where: Aston Place, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. When: 5pm-11pm
Chocolate Factory will open its doors to exhibit pop up displays from individuals who use the space in art, design, music, photography, even aerial circus. Blas cafe will also be open to serve delicious food in this creative, reinvigorated, Williams Woods building. Where: 21 Kings Inn Street, Dublin 1. When: 5pm-11pm
